Last week Queensland’s Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women Di Farmer (MP) was on site of the new 32-bed detention centre at Wacol, where the FACTION team is driving the fast-tracked project delivery.

Acknowledging the impactful intent of the build, which is due for completion in 2021, Farmer wrote that the new centre will allow for an alternative approach to rehabilitation;

“This will be a new focus – a therapeutic approach that addresses the many reasons young people end up in the system, including disability, mental health, substance abuse, disengagement from education, etc – with the intent that we get them on the right track while they’re in there and hopefully don’t see them back in the system again.
We want to change the story for our young people, and change the story for the community. And we’re well on the way.”
